Frequently Asked Questions
Is VoIP reliable?
GigTel uses market-leading infrastructure and partners with service providers in select markets to ensure that customers get excellent call quality on every call. Our system delivers optimal HD call quality without dropped calls or downtime.
If I switch my phone service, do I have to change my business phone number?
You can move your existing number over to GigTel. However, you may not be able to port your number if you are moving and the area code is changing as a result.
Does my internet speed affect my phone service?
Since VoIP calls travel through the internet, having a stable, fast internet connection will ensure you get the most out of your system. For best service, your connection speed should meet or exceed 100Kbps both upstream and downstream per user.
To test the speed of your service, you can use free online services such as speedtest.net. This will give you a snapshot of your current functional bandwidth, but it is important to note that this metric can vary depending on how much bandwidth your various business applications are utilizing at any given point in time.
We want to set you up for success. If you have any questions or concerns, a GigTel rep can help you identify your connection speed before moving forward with a VoIP solution.
What is a cloud-based phone system?
“Cloud-based” means that the core technology infrastructure providing the business phone functionality is hosted in our geo-redundant, secure data centers and delivered to your business over the web. This eliminates the need for capital investment and the hassle of installing and managing complex hardware in your office.
Can we keep our business number if we change providers?
If you switch to GigTel while remaining in your current area code, you can typically keep your current business number. We can confirm on your behalf prior to signing with GigTel. The porting process takes approximately 2-4 weeks and is dependent on how quickly your current provider releases the phone numbers.
